Photo of Carol Calhoon, Startup SistersCarol E. Calhoon, is founder of Down on the Farm, Inc., which is the parent company to  Carol's Office Solutions and Dr. Maze's Farm, both in Redmond, Wash. She is also the proprietor of Carol E. Calhoon Enrolled Agent.

As a small business accounting and tax expert, and a QuickBooks Pro Advisor, Carol can help perform CPR on your personal or business taxes: She'll provide Consultation, Preparation and Representation when you need help and you can believe it will be done correctly the first time! And, as one of a very select group of individuals across the country who is an Enrolled Agent, she is licensed by the federal government and authorized to appear on behalf of clients before the Internal Revenue Service.

That's her day job. By night, she and her husband operate a 47-acre farm  right off the Woodinville-Redmond Road just east of Kirkland. It's a Carol E. Calhoon, Startup Sisters Photoworking farm that sells herbs and squash, and a variety of truly unique products ranging from specialty salts to gourmet teas, hand balms, lotions and other botanical and aromatic, healthy products developed from items grown right on the farm. They also lease space to a variety of local businesses, such as the Trellis Restaurant in Kirkland, whose chef grows a variety of apples, fruits and vegetables there, for his culinary creations.

For more than a decade, "Dr. Maze," aka Roger Calhoon, has carved a five-acre family friendly maze in a corn field in one corner of the property. Much to the delight of locals, who make an annual pilgrimmage to this wonderfully peaceful place, the farm also offers families preparing for Halloween the perfect pumpkin patch, a farm animal petting zoo, fragrant herbs, kettle corn and a farm-fresh store. In 2011, it also became the site for the first Startup Sisters "Stone Soup" dinner, hayride and 'country' evening. Because everyone in business for themselves needs at least one afternoon-long escape, down on the farm.  <g>
